“Satoshi” is an Official Word

Welcome, welcome to One Minute Crypto! I’m your host Chronos, and today the Oxford
English Dictionary has added “Satoshi” as an official new word. Not as the proper name of the anonymous inventor
of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, but as an actual word. So here’s a little trivia question: do you
know what a “satoshi” is? That’s right, it is the smallest possible
unit of bitcoin. Exactly one hundred million satoshis make
up a full bitcoin. But here’s something maybe you didn’t know:
you can’t actually send a single satoshi in a blockchain transaction. Bitcoin has something called a “dust limit”
that sets the minimum transaction size at 546 satoshis. And while we’re talking about things you don’t
know, I should mention that Satoshi probably isn’t pronounced like you think it is. In Japanese, every syllable has equal emphasis. So it’s not SaTOshi, it’s sa-to-shi. But the Oxford English Dictionary has their
own idea: they report that British speakers say Satoshi, while Americans say Satoshi. So now I’m wondering: how do YOU pronounce
it? Post below. I’m Chronos. Thanks for watching!
