Learn Salsa: The Drop Catch or Coin Drop Move

[Music]>>Nicole: Welcome to Dance Papi. My name
is Nicole Lazo and this is Chris Penales. Today we’re going to be doing the Coin Drop.
We’re going to go ahead and show you guys a couple times.
It looks like this. 1, 2, 3, we’ll switch the hand. 5, 6, 7, to the shoulder. 1, 2,
3, the guy will come back to see us. 5, 6, 7, hair brush. 1, 2, 3, and 5, 6, 7.
Guys, I’m going to break down your footwork first because it is a little different. Chris
is going forward on the count of 1. 1, 2, 3, just like the regular basic. Then
slowly, we’re going to the side for 5. He’s going to replace 6 on his left foot and put
all the weight on his left foot, because he will squeeze his right foot in and do a half
turn on 7. From here, he’s going to go forward for another 1, turn, look at his partner on
2, and then together on 3, back break and finish the basic step on 5, 6, 7.
We’ll do it a couple more times. Guys are going to go forward on 1, 2, 3. Go out to
the side 5, replace 6, turn 7, go forward and go back to see your partner, 2, 3, back
break. 5, 6, 7. One more time. 1, 2, 3, to the side. 5, 6, 7 forward. 1, go back, 2,
3, and then back break 5, 6, 7. Guys, once you have that down you can try it with your
partner. We’ll start with closed position and we’re going switch the hand right to right
on the count of 3 so it looks like this, 1, 2, 3. Leaders, as you’re turning your partner
you’re going to be turning at the end of this as well. It’s very important that you make
sure she starts the turn first and you’re going to finish it up. The hand is going to
go around my head, 5. As I do this, Chris is going out the right
with his right foot, and then he’s replacing 6. Now the hand is going to go to his shoulder
as he goes away from me for his half turn on 7. Let’s do that again, just the first
part. We’ll switch the hand on the count of 3. 1, 2, 3, start the ladies turn as you break
to the side leaders. 5, 6, go away from her, 7. Ladies, even if you see your partner
do something special and they don’t pull or lead you anywhere else, just do what they
have asked you to do, so right now that was just a right turn. Guys, you’re going to leave
the hand on her shoulder as you bring your right hand down to your hip. Leaders, what
you want to do is, your palm is going to be up just like this.
If you lead the hand, you have to give her an option of where you want her to go. I can
see his hand there. As he goes forward, he’s going to extend his hand back towards me on
the count of 1. Ladies, I haven’t got a special lead here, so I’m just doing my basic step.
He’s going to go forward, my hand is going to fall on 1, he’ll look at me, 2, and then
bring my hand back up on the count of 3. We’ll finish it off with a right turn 5, 6, 7, and
then a hair brush. 1, 2, 3 shoulder turn, 5, 6, 7. Let’s try that again. We’re going
to switch the hand on the count of 3. 1, 2, 3, guys are going to turn us as he goes out
to the right. 5, 6, 7, drop the hand and go to the hip as you go forward, leaders, and
extend. 1, turn to see her 2, 3, right turn, 5, 6,
7, hair brush, 1, 2, 3, shoulder turn, 5, 6, 7. Doing it fast is a little hard. You’re
going to place the hand and go right to your hip. We’ll do it a little faster for you guys.
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, drop the hand, 1, 2, 3, and 5, 6, 7. All right, here it comes with music, the Coin Drop. 5, 6, 7, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7.
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7. As you can see, Chris is coming back to see me as he’s doing the Coin
Drop pretty fast. You can’t hang out over there at all, guys. When Chris does the turn
out to the side, and comes forward, and comes right back to see me so he’s ready for my
turn on the count of 5. It’s really important that you give her a lead and the pre-lead.
The hand has to be up by 3 and turn on 5 so she’s not behind.
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7. Ladies, we’re not doing
anything super special here, we’re just doing a right turn and a basic and then a right
turn. You never want to do anything out of the ordinary that he hasn’t led you to do
yet. So hang back, wait for the lead. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7.
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, hair brush, and we’re done. Thanks for watching this video on Dance Papi.
