>>Announcer: THIS IS CBC “HERE AND NOW.”>>Anthony: IT IS A PERFECT NIGHT FOR A BALL GAME. I AM OUT AND VICTORIA PARK TONIGHT. DON’T WORRY, I WILL HAVE YOUR FULL FORECAST, BUT LET’S SEND IT BACK TO CAROLYN WOOD TODAY’S TOP NEWS.>>Carolyn: THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO “HERE AND NOW.” WOULD BEGIN TONIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF ST. JOHN’S. FIRST RESPONDERS RUSHED TO THE RABBIT TOWN AREA SHORT TIME AGO AFTER A CAR CRASHED INTO A PATIO BRIAN COOK WAS ON THE SCENE.>>Reporter: IT IS A CHAOTIC SCENE ON GOODRICH STREET THIS AFTERNOON AS A PARKED CAR ROLLED OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND CRASHED INTO A HOUSE, SENDING FOUR PEOPLE TO HOSPITAL. AMONG THE INJURED PEOPLE WERE TWO ELDERLY WOMEN WHO WERE JUST ENJOYING A SUNNY DAY ON THEIR PATIO WHEN THE CAR CAME CRASHING IN. ANOTHER OF THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS WAS ALSO TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. NONE OF THEM SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES, BUT A WITNESS SAYS IT WAS THE MAN CHASING AFTER THE CAR WHO ACTUALLY TOOK THE HARDEST HIT. WE WERE TOLD HE WAS THROWN TO THE GROUND AND WAS UNCONSCIOUS WHEN FIRST RESPONDERS ARRIVED. THE TWO HOUSES HERE WERE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER. THE CAR ROLLED OUT OF THIS DRIVEWAY AND DOWN THE HILL PICKING UP SPEED INTO THE PATIO. ONE OF THE PEOPLE THAT DODGED THE CAR TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THE OWNER’S FAULT AT ALL AND THAT HE DID EVERYTHING HE COULD TO STOP IT BEFORE IT CRASHED INTO THE HOUSE. FIRST RESPONDERS SHOWED UP IN FULL FORCE WITH SEVERAL FIRE TRUCKS, POLICE CARS AND AMBULANCES BLOCKING THE NARROW ROAD. A NEIGHBOUR SAYS HE WAS IN HIS BACKYARD WHEN HE HEARD A LARGE CRASH AND WENT RUNNING. HE WAS EXPECTING TO SEE TWO CARS HAD BANGED INTO EACH OTHER, BUT HE SAYS HE NEVER EXPECTED TO SEE THAT FOUR PEOPLE WERE INJURED AND ON THE GROUND.>>Carolyn: A TRAGIC ACCIDENT ON THE SOUTHERN AVALON TODAY. POLICE SAY A 16-YEAR-OLD MAN IS DEAD AFTER FALLING INTO A WELL. IT HAPPENED ABOUT 50 KILOMETRES OUTSIDE OF ST. JOHN’S. THE RCMP WERE CALLED TO THE AREA AT 7:30 A.M. THIS MORNING. THE MAN’S BODY WAS RECOVERED FROM THE WELL ON HIS PROPERTY THIS AFTERNOON. POLICE SAY THEY BELIEVE THE DEATH WAS ACCIDENTAL. A NEIGHBOUR FOUND HIS BODY SHORTLY AFTER POLICE WERE CALLED>>WHERE HE ENDED UP, I WILL PICTURE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. IT IS NOT THE WAY I WOULD EVER WANT TO SEE IT. LYING ON THE COUCH OR SOMETHING. DYING IS HARD ENOUGH. IT’S LIKE THERE’S NO DIGNITY.>>YEAH,.>>Carolyn: A WORKPLACE INCIDENT CLOSE DOWN THE DUMP IN ST. JOHN’S THIS MORNING. WORK GROUND TO A HALT THIS MORNING AT THE ROBIN HOOD BAIT LANDFILL SITE AFTER ONE PERSON WAS SENT TO HOSPITAL IN A WORK INCIDENT. THE R.N.C. OFFICERS WERE LATER JOINED BY INVESTIGATORS FROM THE PROVINCIAL DEPARTMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY AND WITH THE CITY OF ST. JOHN’S. THE CITY SAYS THE MAN WAS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL FOR — PRECAUTIONARY REASONS AND THAT HIS INJURIES ARE NOT SERIOUS. THE DUMP REMAINS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.>>>THERE HAS BEEN A POLICE PRESENCE AT A HOUSE IN THE AREA OF EMPIRE AVENUE THIS AFTERNOON. THE R.N.C. SAYS OFFICERS EXECUTED A PUBLIC SAFETY WARRANT IT IS IN CONNECTION TO AN INVESTIGATION BY THE MAJOR CRIMES UNIT. POLICE ARE NOT PROVIDING DETAILS ON THAT INVESTIGATION. A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE R.N.C. SAYS THERE ARE NO CONCERNS FOR PUBLIC SAFETY AND IT IS A CONTROL SITUATION.>>>MORE DETAILS TONIGHT ABOUT ONE OF THE VICTIMS OF A FLOAT FLOATPLANE CRASHING LABRADOR. AND AMERICAN IS COUNTED AMONG THE FOUR MEN KILLED IN THE COSH. THREE MORE ARE STILL MISSING. THE 67-YEAR-OLD WAS ORIGINALLY FROM PENNSYLVANIA. BEFORE HIS RETIREMENT, HE WAS AHEAD OF A MAJOR AMERICAN STORAGE COMPANY. TWO WEEKS ON, THE PLANE WRECKAGE STILL HASN’T BEEN FOUND. IT WAS FIRST VISIBLE BY RESCUE CREWS, BUT MAY HAVE SINCE DRIFTED AND SANK. HE ORIGINALLY PLANNED A FISHING TRIP TO THE LAKE LAST SUMMER BUT RESCHEDULED HIS VISIT DUE TO POOR WEATHER. HE NEVER MARRIED AND NEVER HAD CHILDREN BUT HE WAS CLOSE TO HIS NIECE AND NEPHEWS.>>WE MAY NEVER KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE REMOTE LOCATION AND WE FEEL LIKE, IN SOME WAYS, LUCKY HE WAS ONE OF THE ONES THAT WAS FOUND AT THE SCENE. THE POLICE WERE ABLE TO GIVE US A SENSE OF CLOSURE AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY HAVEN’T EVEN BEEN ABLE TO RECOVER THE REST OF THE PLANE YET, I FEEL PRETTY TERRIBLE FOR ALL THE OTHER FAMILIES. IT SOUNDS CLICHÉ, BUT HE DIED DOING A THING THAT HE REALLY ENJOYED. I TAKE SOME SOLACE IN THAT. [♪♪♪]>>Reporter: WE ARE ASKING PEOPLE WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT THE NEW ASSIGN — THE NEW SIGN.>>Reporter: IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE GETTING A NEW CENTRE. I WILL TELL YOU MORE COMING UP ON “HERE AND NOW”. [♪♪♪]>>Carolyn: FOR THE SECOND NIGHT IN A ROW, ASHLEY IS ENJOYING THE GREAT OUTDOORS AND THIS TIME, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A BALLGAME HAPPENING.>>Ashley: YES, I AM OUTSIDE OF VICTORIA PARK. MY TEAM IS ON THE FIELD RIGHT NOW. I’M SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYING BUT OBVIOUSLY I HAVE TO WORK FORCED, BUT WE SAW A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS MOVE THROUGH TODAY WE HAD A LITTLE BIT OF A VIDEO THAT I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU FIRST. WE WILL TAKE A LOOK AT THAT. NOT SOMETHING THAT WE HEAR VERY OFTEN, QUITE A LOUD BOOM OF THUNDER EARLIER TODAY. SHERRY ADAMS SHARED WITH US. THAT LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS MAKING HIS WAY TOWARDS THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE AVALON, BUT LOOKING AT THE LATEST RADAR, IT IS STARTING TO DIE OUT. I WILL HAVE ALL THE DETAILS, YOUR FULL FORECAST, AND WHAT TO EXPECT OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS WHEN I COME BACK.>>Carolyn: THANK YOU, ASHLEY.>>>THE CITY OF ST. JOHN’S SAYS IT WANTS TO KNOW WHAT PEOPLE IN THE MONDAY POND AREA THINK ABOUT PLANS TO REPLACE THE MUSIC COMMUNITY CENTRE. TODAY IT HELD A PUBLIC MEETING TO GET FEEDBACK ON THE TWO SIGHTS THE CITY IS CONSIDERING.>>Reporter: THIS IS THE NEW CENTRE THAT THE CITY SAYS MUST BE REPLACED. CLEARLY SOME MONDAY POND RESIDENTS HAVE STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT IT.>>I CAME HERE THREE YEARS AGO AND NOW — THAT WOULD MEAN SO MUCH FOR ME.>>Reporter: BUT RESIDENTS AGREE , THE OLD BUILDING THEY LOVE HAS TO GO.>>IT IS REALLY GOOD. IT DEFINITELY IS TOO SMALL AND IT NEEDS UPGRADING.>>Reporter: THE QUESTION FOR THE CITY IS, WHERE SHOULD THE NEW 24 MILLION-DOLLAR FACILITY BE BUILT?>>A LOT OF PEOPLE WANTED TO STAY IN THIS AREA AND REALIZE THERE’S NOT A LOT OF AREAS THEY CAN PUT ANY BUILDING OF THAT SIZE.>>Reporter: INITIALLY THEY LOOKED AT A SITE HERE ACROSS THE STREET BUT THERE ARE CONCERNS ABOUT PARKING AND LOSING SOME GREEN SPACE. THEY ARE LOOKING AT A SECOND SITE HERE AT THE OFFICE AT THE END OF THE POND.>>IT IS CURRENTLY RECREATIONAL, BUT WITH THE SOFTBALL FIELDS, THE DOG PARK, THE SKATE PARK, IT IS A GREAT FACILITY AND A GREAT AREA. PEOPLE ARE CERTAINLY WANTING IT.>>Reporter: THERE ARE SOME CONCERNS, INCLUDE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE POSSIBLE LOSS OF A SOCCER FIELD.>>WE HAVE A LOT OF IMMIGRANTS IN THIS AREA SO THAT IS ONE AREA — SOCCER IS A GAME THEY DO PLAY AND IT IS A WAY OF INTEGRATING INTO THE COMMUNITY. I UNDERSTAND, ON THE PEOPLE HERE THAT THEY ARE ADDRESSING WITH A SOCCER ASSOCIATION, SO I HOPE THAT WORKS.>>Reporter: ULTIMATELY, COUNCIL WILL DECIDE. IF THEY DO DECIDE TO GO AHEAD HERE, I’M TOLD THE NEW CENTRE SHOULD BE HERE BY 2022.>>Carolyn: THE LEADER OF THE GREEN PARTY IS IN THIS PROVINCE. ELIZABETH MAY IS HIGHLIGHTING HER CANDIDATES FOR THE UPCOMING FALL ELECTION, WHAT SHE IS ALSO TRYING TO CONVINCE NEWFOUNDLANDERS AND LABRADORIANS THAT OUR FUTURE SHOULD BE ONE WITHOUT OIL.>>Reporter: SHE MAY HAVE CHECKED AT A SOLAR POWERED GREENHOUSE THIS MORNING. THIS IS THE FUTURE SHE’S PITCHING FOR NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR. ONE WHERE THE ECONOMY IS BUILT ON RENEWABLE TECHNOLOGY AND NOT OIL AND GAS. SHE SAYS THE OIL INDUSTRY IS FACING THE SAME FATE AS A CAUGHT FISHERY. IT WILL DISAPPEAR. SHE SAYS WE NEED TO ACT NOW TO MAKE SURE IT IS NOT AS ABRUPT.>>WE NEED TO MAKE A TRANSITION, WHICH MEANS WE SET A GOAL AFTER WE DO — AS WE DID WITH THE HOSPITAL. IN THE MEANTIME, LOOK AT ALL THESE GREAT WORKERS WITH TRANSFERABLE SKILLS. WE GUARANTEE THEIR WORK UNDER THE PRINCIPLES OF TRANSITION, WORKERS WHO ARE LAYING PIPELINE ONE DAY CAN BE PUTTING UP WINDMILLS THE NEXT.>>Reporter: THAT IS A TOUGH SELL IN THE PROVINCE APPLIES TO GROW THE OIL AND GAS BUSINESS AND NOT SHUT IT DOWN. OIL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 16 OF THE PROVINCE’S ECONOMY OR ABOUT $5 BILLION A YEAR. TODAY SHE WAS SHOWING OFF HER CANDIDATES IN AVALON. HE’S BETTER KNOWN AS AN ACTOR. HE RAN FOR THE N.D.P. IN THE EARLY TO THOUSANDS. HE SAYS THAT WE NEED TO BE FOCUSED ON THE ENVIRONMENT FIRST>>WE ARE WAY BEHIND IN GREEN TECHNOLOGY, IN RENEWABLE ENERGIES, AND THE REELECTED ECONOMY THAT WILL BE THE ECONOMY OF THE FUTURE. WE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND WITH THE ECONOMY OF THE PAST. WE DON’T WANT THAT. THAT HAS WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO US TOO OFTEN BEFORE.>>Reporter: THE GREEN PARTY HAS DONE WELL ELSEWHERE IN THE COUNTRY. THEY ARE NOW THE OFFICIAL OPPOSITION IN P.E.I. AND HAVE A CAUCUS IN NEW BRUNSWICK, BUT THE LACK OF SUPPORT FOR THE SEAL HUNT IN THEIR OPPOSITION TO OIL AND GAS DEVELOPMENT MAKES IT A TOUGH SELL HERE.>>I DON’T THINK IT FITS VERY WELL WITH WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE PROVINCE WANT. BEYOND THAT, I THINK IT IS A POLITICAL CULTURE THAT IS STILL STRONGLY ROOTED IN THE TRADITIONAL PARTIES. WE HAVEN’T SEEN MUCH MOVEMENT IN THAT, AND SO NEW PARTIES JUST HAVE A HARD TIME WORKING IN — GETTING INTO REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY’RE COMING FROM.>>Reporter: SUCCESS WERE ELIZABETH MAY IN THIS PROVINCE IN THIS ELECTION WOULD BE TO BUILD A LITTLE BIT MORE SUPPORT. [♪♪♪]>>THANK GOD, YOU KNOW, WE ARE OPEN.>>Carolyn: REOPENED AND RELIEVED. AND OWNER IS BACK IN BUSINESS FOLLOWING A SUSPICIOUS FIRE NEXT-DOOR. [♪♪♪] [♪♪♪]>>Carolyn: TIME TO HEAD BACK TO VICTORIA PARK IN ST. JOHN’S WERE ASHLEY IS RIGHT NOW. ASHLEY, YOU MENTIONED EARLIER THAT IT IS YOUR TEAM THAT IS PLAYING SOFTBALL THERE BEHIND YOU, BUT I DON’T SEE YOUR JERSEY>>Ashley: I KNOW, I DIDN’T PUT MY JERSEY ON. WE DON’T REALLY WEAR JERSEYS, BUT HE DIDN’T PUT MY BASEBALL SHIRT ON. I WILL CHANGE INTO THAT IN A LITTLE BIT.>>Carolyn: WILL YOU BE PLAYING AT SOME POINT TONIGHT?>>Ashley: WE HAVE TWO GAMES BACK TO BACK IN THE THIRST — FIRST ONE STARTED AT SIX AND THE NEXT ONE IS AT SEVEN. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THEM AND THEY ARE DOING A PRETTY GOOD JOB. HOPEFULLY THEY CAN KEEP TOGETHER BEFORE I GET THERE.>>Carolyn: YOU HAVE BEEN PLAYING FOR A WHILE AND YOU HAVE A PRETTY GOOD ARM. I HAVE SEEN IT FIRSTHAND.>>Ashley: YES, I HAVE BEEN PLAYING BALL SINCE I WAS TEN, MAYBE EARLIER THAN THAT, SO IT IS NICE TO GET BACK ON THE FIELD I HAD A LITTLE BIT OF AN INJURY A LITTLE BIT EARLIER IN THE SEASON, BUT OVERALL IT IS OKAY.>>Carolyn: IT IS A GREAT NIGHT BE OUT THERE PLAYING BALL FOR SURE.>>Ashley: KIND OF, IT WAS. IT JUST STARTED SPITTING. I CAN SEE THE CLOUDS. I MAY HAVE TO RUN INTO THE CAR IF IT STARTS TO DOWNPOUR, SO WE WILL JUMP RIGHT INTO THE WEATHER AND ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS DAY TODAY. WE WILL TAKE A LOOK AT TEMPERATURES THAT WE SAW EARLIER TODAY. 26 DEGREES IN ST. JOHN’S. TWENTY-SEVEN IN GANDER. 29 DEGREES IN DEER LAKE. IT DID FEEL LIKE 28 DEGREES OR 29 DEGREES IN ST. JOHN’S EARLIER TODAY. THAT TEMPERATURE NOW, WE ARE STARTING TO SEE THOSE TEMPERATURES DROP A LITTLE BIT FOR PARTS OF THE REGION. AROUND 20 DEGREES IN MOST AREAS, BUT WE DID SEE A BIG TEMPERATURE DROP FOR AREAS LIKE CLARENVILLE, IT DROPPED FROM 28 DEGREES TO 18 THIS AFTERNOON AS WE SAW THAT LIGHTNING ROLL THROUGH. THERE’S A LOOK AT THOSE STORMS THAT ROLLED THROUGH EARLIER TODAY. IF WE GO IN A LITTLE BIT, YOU CAN SEE THAT THEY ARE STARTING TO TAPER OFF. THAT LIGHTNING IS NO LONGER HANGING AROUND. AS WE HAD THROUGH THE NIGHT TONIGHT, GENERALLY GREY SKIES. AND SHOWERS MOVING THROUGH LABRADOR FOR THE MOST PART TONIGHT, AND THAT WILL HEAD TOWARDS THE COAST BY THE TIME TOMORROW MORNING ROLLS AROUND, STAYING GENERALLY GREY. HERE IS OUR OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES. A MILD NIGHT IN CORNER BROOK. 16 DEGREES. TWELVE FOR ST. JOHN’S. THOSE WINDS THAT WE ARE SEEING RIGHT NOW WILL GENERALLY EASE THROUGH THE NIGHT TONIGHT, AND ST. ANTHONY GOING DOWN TO SINGLE DIGITS. THAT IS SETTING UP FOR A COOL DAY TOMORROW. YOU CAN SEE THE SINGLE-DIGIT TEMPERATURES FOR MOST OF LABRADOR, STILL QUITE MILD IN LAB CITY, 14 DEGREES. HERE IS WHAT IS ON TOP TOMORROW. ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR THE MOST PART. WE SHOULD SEE A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUD, BUT AGAIN, THE RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE UP THROUGH THE NORTHERN PENINSULA, THE BEST CHANCE FOR SEEING PERSISTENT SHOWERS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THE REST FOR CENTRAL, THE WEST COAST, AND TOWARDS EASTERN NEWFOUNDLAND, IT WILL BE MORE OF THE POP-UP NATURE. EVEN MORE SCATTERED THAN WHAT WE SAW TODAY, AND UNSADDLED UP THROUGH LABRADOR. HERE IS WHERE I AM THINKING THE POTENTIAL FOR THUNDERSTORMS IS THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW. AGAIN, VERY SCATTERED IN NATURE, ISOLATED AND POP UPS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. HERE ARE YOUR TEMPERATURES. COOLER IN ST. JOHN’S. 22 DEGREES TOMORROW. BUT HANGING ONTO THE HEAT AS WE HEAD TOWARDS EASTERN NEWFOUNDLAND AND MARRIES TOWN. 28 DEGREES AND BONAVISTA A LITTLE COOLER AT 19. WINDS ARE GENERALLY AROUND 30 KM/H. THERE IS A RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS AND A GOOD CHANCE WE WILL SEE IT AGAIN FROM GANDER TO GRAND FALLS WINDSOR. TWENTY-NINE, 31 DEGREES. THERE ARE THOSE COOLER TEMPERATURES. IT WILL BE WARMER FURTHER NORTH. CORNER BROOK WILL BE 31 DEGREES. GROS-MORNE WILL BE 26. FOR THE NORTHERN PENINSULA, THOSE COOLER TEMPERATURES — WE CAN THANK THE NORTHEAST FLOW FOR THAT. THE ONSHORE FLOW BRINGING THOSE TEMPERATURES DOWN AND GENERALLY COOL THROUGH LABRADOR. 9 DEGREES FROM A KOVIC TOMORROW AFTERNOON. BARELY CRACKING THE MID-DOUBLE DIGITS FOR HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY AND LAB CITY RECOVERING. THAT IS A LOOK AT YOUR FORECAST FOR TOMORROW AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THE WEEKEND. THE HEAT WILL STICK AROUND AND ALSO THE RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS. I WILL HAVE ALL THOSE DETAILS COMING UP IN A LITTLE BIT.>>Carolyn: THANK YOU, ASHLEY. IT HAS BEEN A TUMULTUOUS MONTH FOR RESTAURANTS THAT EXPERIENCED SMOKE DAMAGE FROM A FIRE NEXT-DOOR. THE NEIGHBORING DAYCARE HAD CAUGHT FIRE AND NOW THE R.N.C. HAS DEEMED THAT FIRE SUSPICIOUS. THAT NEWS IS A SOURCE OF CONCERN FOR THIS WOMAN, CO-OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT. I SPOKE WITH HER THIS AFTERNOON. CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE REOPENED. IT MUST BE A RELIEF.>>YES, WE ARE RELIEVED RIGHT NOW. AND SINCE LAST MONDAY, WE REOPENED OUR RESTAURANT HERE SO IT IS A BIG RELIEF FOR US, ESPECIALLY TO OUR WORKERS AND OUR CUSTOMERS.>>Carolyn: CAN YOU TAKE US BACK AND TELL ME, IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, YOU GET A PHONE CALL FROM THE POLICE SAYING THERE HAD BEEN A FIRE.>>I THINK OUR LANDLORD WAS THE ONE WHO CONTACTED US AND BY THEN , WE WERE RUSHING AT 7:00 IN THE MORNING, WE ARE USUALLY UP AROUND 9:00 OR EIGHT. I COULDN’T EVEN FUNCTION MYSELF. I SAID TO MY HUSBAND, WAS THE PROPANE GAS TURNED OFF? THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS IN OUR CARDS, BUT THANK GOD IT WASN’T DAMAGE FROM THIS PLACE WHEN WE WENT HERE, ALL THE SHATTERED GLASS FROM THE FRONT DOOR, AND WE COULDN’T GET IN BECAUSE OF THE INSURANCE, SO THAT IS THE PART — WE NEVER KNEW WHAT INSIDE DAMAGE WAS DURING THE TIME.>>Carolyn: HOW DIFFICULT WAS THAT FOR YOU? YOU LOST THREE WEEKS WORTH OF SALES, PLUS YOU HAVE STAFF THAT RELY ON THIS JOB.>>THAT’S TRUE. IT HAS BEEN KIND OF SCARY. WE HAVE TO PAY, WE KNOW OUR INCOME, AND MY HUSBAND, THIS IS HIS SALES THAT ARE COMING OUT AS JUST INCOME, AS WELL, BECAUSE HE RESIGNED FROM HIS WORK. WE PUT UP THIS ONE. IT WAS KIND OF SCARY THAT WE ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE — MEET SOME OF OUR NEEDS AND ABLE FOR US TO MEET OUR BILLS AND EVERYTHING. THINK GOD THEY ARE OPEN. THAT IS A GOOD PART OF IT. WE STARTED OUT BUILDING UP OUR SALES AGAIN AND HOPE OUR CUSTOMERS WILL FIND OUT AGAIN THAT WE ARE OPEN. THAT WILL BE GREAT HELP FOR US AND TO SUPPORT OUR BUSINESSES WELL.>>Carolyn: WHAT WENT THROUGH YOUR MIND THAT YOU FIND — WHEN YOU FOUND OUT THAT THE POLICE HAVE NO NOW DEEMED THAT FIRE SUSPICIOUS?>>I DON’T HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT IT, BUT THAT IS RIDICULOUS IF THAT IS THE CASE. I HOPE IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN, AND THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE IT, THEY HAVE TO THINK OF, YOU KNOW, THIS THE CIRCUMSTANCES — THE CONSEQUENCES FOR THE ENTIRE PROVINCE BECAUSE WE COULD HAVE LOST ALL THESE BUSINESSES HERE. THAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST THING FOR US. I HOPE IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. THAT WILL BE — WE ARE HOPING AND PRAYING FOR NOT ONLY HERE IN THE PLAZA, BUT OTHER PARTS OF THE BUSINESSES THAT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN TO OTHER PARTS AS WELL.>>Carolyn: AND KNOWING THAT IT WASN’T AN ACCIDENT, HOW WORRIED ARE YOU NOW?>>A LITTLE BIT WORRIED, AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE HOPING THAT THEY NEED TO PUT CAMERAS. NOT REALLY HERE IN THE PLAZA, BUT EVERY PLAZA AND PATROLLING, SOME POLICE THAT MIGHT HELP TO FIGURE OUT IF THOSE PEOPLE — WHATEVER INTENTION THAT THEY HAD TO, BUT AT LEAST WE WILL BE MORE AWARE THAT PEOPLE WILL BE AWARE OF WHAT THEY ARE DOING. IT IS NOT A GOOD THING TO HAPPEN FOR A BUSINESS.>>Carolyn: JACQUELINE, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SPEAKING WITH US>>YOU’RE WELCOME. THANK YOU SO MUCH AND HOPEFULLY YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT DAY TODAY. [♪♪♪]>>THIS TIES IT UP MORE THAN SHE IS AT C.>>Carolyn: JACOB BARKER IS A BOARD LABRADOR’S NEWEST FERRY AND GETTING FEEDBACK FROM FELLOW PASSENGERS. PART TWO OF THE MAIDEN VOYAGE IS AHEAD ON “HERE AND NOW.” [♪♪♪]>>WHAT IS ON YOUR DINNER PLATE AND WHAT YOU’RE PUTTING AT THE END OF THE FORK IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN THE GENES THAT WE INHERIT FROM OUR PARENTS. THAT GOES NOT JUST FOR YOUR WAIT , BUT FOR DISEASES.>>Carolyn: A NEW LOCAL DOCUMENTARY CHALLENGES THE NOTION THAT A PERSON’S GENES CAN DETERMINE THEIR HEALTH OUTCOMES. IT TELLS A STORY OF TWO DOCTORS WHO ARE TRYING TO TRANSFORM THE DIETS AND LIFESTYLES OF PEOPLE ON THE BURIN PENINSULA, AND THAT APPROACH HAS PRODUCED VISIBLE RESULTS. JOINING ME NOW TO TALK MORE ABOUT THIS NEW DOCUMENTARY IS ITS DIRECTOR. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING IN.>>THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.>>Carolyn: FIRST OF ALL, WHAT DOES IT MEAN?>>IT IS A WORD THAT THE DOCTORS USE IN THEIR WORKSHOP AND THEY BASICALLY TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO PLANT IF I THEIR REGULAR MEALS. THEY SAY IT QUITE OFTEN. WE THOUGHT IT WAS A PERFECT TITLE FOR THE DOCUMENTARY.>>Carolyn: IS IT LIKE VEGETARIAN?>>IT IS PLANT-BASED. IT IS WHOLE FOODS, PLANT-BASED.>>Carolyn: IF YOU ARE –>>THEN THAT MEANS YOU DON’T EAT MEAT. YOU ALSO DON’T EAT PROCESSED FOODS, YOU DON’T — YOU CUT OUT THE OIL, AS WELL, SO IT IS QUITE A TRANSFORMATION. IT IS NOT JUST VEGAN, IT IS ACTUALLY WHOLE FOODS, AND PLANT -BASED. IT IS A STEP BEYOND VIA GET — BEGIN. A LOT OF VEGANS DO NOT NECESSARILY EAT HEALTHILY. WHOLE FOODS, PLANT-BASED TRIES TO, YOU KNOW, IT IS A HEALTHY WAY OF EATING.>>Carolyn: OKAY. WHAT IS THE BACK STORY HERE? CAN YOU TELL US WHAT THIS DOCUMENTARY IS ABOUT?>>SURE. IT IS ABOUT A COUPLE OF MERRY DOCTORS WHO ARE CREATING A REMARKABLE HEALTH TRANSFORMATION ON THE BURIN PENINSULA, IN RURAL NEWFOUNDLAND.>>Carolyn: WHAT IS THAT TRANSFORMATION?>>TWO WHOLE FOODS, PLANT-BASED EATING. THEY ARE TEACHING PEOPLE HOW TO MAKE THE SWITCH AND THEY ARE TEACHING PEOPLE WHO HAVE GROWN UP EATING TRADITIONAL NEWFOUNDLAND DIET, SO, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF — USUALLY A LOT OF PROCESSED FOODS.>>Carolyn: AND BIG DINNERS AND BALONEY.>>AND CALLED AND MOVES, SO WILD CAUGHT FOOD. IT IS A HUGE TRANSFORMATION FOR PEOPLE. PEOPLE ARE SEEING REMARKABLE HEALTH BENEFITS. THEY ARE DROPPING MEDICATIONS, THEY ARE LOSING WEIGHT, SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF WEIGHT, AND SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF MEDICATIONS AND THEY ARE SEEING — THEY ARE REVERSING THEIR DISEASES. IT BLEW MY MIND WHEN I ATTENDED A WORKSHOP. I THOUGHT, THIS IS A PERFECT SUBJECT FOR DOCUMENTARY.>>Carolyn: WHAT MOTIVATED THE DOCTORS TO TRY TO TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO EAT BETTER IN RURAL AREAS>>THE DOCTOR AS A SURGEON, SO HE CAME TO THE BURIN PENINSULA TO WORK AS A SURGEON AND HE DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF SICKNESS IN THE RURAL NEWFOUNDLAND AND HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND HE FOUND OUT THAT NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR HAVE SOME OF THE HIGHEST DISEASE RATES IN THE COUNTRY SO THEY WERE ALREADY WHOLE FOODS AND PLANT-BASED THEMSELVES, AND THEY WANTED TO TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO ADOPT THIS LIFESTYLE.>>Carolyn: WHAT KIND OF TRANSFORMATION DID YOU WITNESS DURING THE MAKING OF THE DOCUMENTARY?>>I WITNESSED PEOPLE SHUTTING ALL KINDS OF WEIGHT. PEOPLE WOULD ATTEND A WORKSHOP AND LEARN IT IS A THREE-DAY WORKSHOP THAT THE DOCTORS OFFER. THEY WOULD ATTEND A WORKSHOP AND LEARN SKILLS ON WHETHER TO BECOME PLANT-BASED AND NAVIGATE. AND THEY WOULD WEIGH PEOPLE WHEN THEY CAME IN, AND THEY WOULD DROP WEIGHT, AND THEY WOULD STOP DROPPING THEIR MEDICATIONS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WORKSHOP. IT WAS THAT PHENOMENAL AND FUNDAMENTAL, AND THEN IF PEOPLE KEPT UP WITH IT, THEY BECAME HEALTHIER.>>Carolyn: WHAT WAS THE WEIGHT LOSS LIKE? DID ANYONE LOSE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WEIGHT?>>ONE OF THE HIGHEST THAT I HAVE HEARD OF IS 90 POUNDS.>>Carolyn: WOW.>>REALLY HUGE AMOUNTS OF WEIGHT>>THAT IS A BIG DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE’S LIFE. HOW CAN SOMEONE WATCH THIS DOCUMENTARY?>>IT IS ON CBC JIM. IT IS AN ABSOLUTELY CANADIAN DOCUMENTARY AND IT IS AVAILABLE ONLINE.>>SO PEOPLE CAN –>>Carolyn: PEOPLE CAN WATCH IT ANY TIME.>>ANY TIME.>>Carolyn: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING IN.>>THANK YOU SO MUCH.>>Carolyn: AS I MENTIONED, YOU CAN WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY ANY TIME ON DEMAND ON THE CBC JIM UP YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THAT UP FROM THE APPLE OR GOOGLE APP STORES AND WATCH FREE CONTENT FROM CBC. YOU CAN ALSO WATCH “HERE AND NOW” THEIR LIVES EACH WEEK AND NIGHT. [♪♪♪]>>Carolyn: WE WILL TAKE YOU BACK ON BOARD THE LATEST VESSEL TO SERVE THE LABRADOR NORTH COAST TONIGHT. THE NEW SHIP IS OPERATED BY WOODWARDS. HERE IS JACOB BARKER WHO WAS ABOARD FOR HIS FIRST RUN AND NOW HAS PART TWO OF OUR SERIES, ” MAIDEN VOYAGE.”>>Reporter: WE ARE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN — YOU CAN START TO FEEL THE BOAT PITCHING A LITTLE BIT AND THAT IS ONE THING THAT PEOPLE ARE WATCHING. THEY SAY THAT THIS BOAT HAS A HIGHER WINDAGE THAN ITS PREDISASTER, WHICH MEANS IT IS TALLER, WHICH MEANS IT IS MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO WIND. [♪♪♪] AS THE SHIP HEADS AROUND CAPE HARRISON INTO THE OPEN WATERS OF THE LABRADOR SEA, FOR THOSE ON BOARD, IT BECOMES A BIT HARDER TO WALK. BUT AFTER ALL THE ROCKING AND ROLLING, THE SHIP MAKES A VERY EARLY MORNING STOP WHERE THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE THERE TO DO SOME SUMMER WORK, BOTH FROM THE NORTH COAST, AND BOTH WITH DIFFERING OPINIONS ON THE SHIP.>>I DON’T LIKE IT.>>I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD UNTIL THE WHOLE BOAT WAS ROCKING FOR ABOUT TWO OR THREE HOURS. IT WAS ROCKING HARD WHERE THE KITCHEN WAS GOING EVERYWHERE AND ALL I COULD HEAR WEAR PLATES.>>Reporter: IS THAT DIFFERENT FOR YOU THAN WHAT YOU GET ON THE OTHER SHIP?>>YES.>>IT IS A BIT ROCKIER.>>Reporter: A FORMER DEPUTY MINISTER FOR THE GOVERNMENT IS WRITING ON THE SHIP. HE HAS CONCERNS ABOUT THE NEW VESSEL.>>THIS THING IS GOING TO BE TIED UP MORE THAN SHE IS AT C. WITH THE REINS, THIS ONE WILL NOT HANDLE THE ROUGH WEATHER.>>Reporter: THE SHIP’S CAPTAIN IS NO STRANGER TO THESE WATERS. HE COMES TO THE SHIP AFTER CAPTAINING THE ASTRON, THE OLD FREIGHTER THAT THEY RUN.>>IT IS A LEARNING CURVE. YES, WE HAVE A LARGER VESSEL, BUT WE ALSO HAVE A MUCH MORE ADVANCED PROPORTION SYSTEM.>>Reporter: THAT ISN’T HIS ONLY CONCERN ABOUT THE NEW VESSEL. HE SAYS THE GOVERNMENT’S PROCESS FOR BRINGING IT INTO SERVICE WAS FLAWED AND INCONSIDERATE.>>YOU HAVE TO LIVE HERE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS SERVICE MEANS. EVERYTHING COMES IN ON THE BOAT. WE ALL PAY HIGHER PRICES IN THE PROVINCE FOR FOOD.>>Reporter: THE NEW SERVICE HAS CUT OUT LEWIS PORT AS A HUB FOR SUPPLIES HEADED TO THE NORTHCOAST. NOW THE PROVINCE IS MOVING THE CARGO PORT TO GOOSE BAY. THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT SAYS THAT MEANS CHEAPER RATES AND IT CAN TRANSPORT MORE FREIGHT AND TRAVEL TO THE NORTHCOAST WEEKLY INSTEAD OF ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS AND DELIVER FRESHER PRODUCE, BUT ANDERSON SAYS IT IS AN UNCOMFORTABLE SHIFT FOR RESIDENTS.>>MANY FAMILIES WOULD PURCHASE SOME PLACES LIKE COSTCO. THEY REAP THEIR SUPPLIES FOR THE FAMILIES FOR THE WINTER. THEY WOULD DELIVER IT TO LOUIS PORT AND THE SHIP WOULD COME THERE FOR ABOUT 120 AND A HUNDRED AND $30. THAT IS A SET AMOUNT OF FOOD. IT WILL COST 700 TO $800 JUST TO GET IT TO GOOSE BAY AND THEN YOU HAVE TO SHIP IT AGAIN.>>Reporter: WHILE THE PEOPLE OF THE COAST LOOK AT EVERY ASPECT OF THE SHIP AND HOW IT WILL SERVE THEIR NEEDS, FOR THE TOURISTS ABOARD, THIS IS A ONE-OFF. FOR THIS COUPLE FROM QUÉBEC, THEY WILL TAKE EVERY CHANCE THEY CAN TO SEE THE SIGHTS.>>IT IS REALLY COLD OUT HERE AND WINDY. YOU CAN TELL BY MY HAT.>>Reporter: AT TIMES, THE VIEW IS CAMOUFLAGED BY HEAVY FOG, WITH THE FURTHER NORTH YOU GET, THE MORE ICEBERGS YOU SEE.>>WE SPOTTED THEM AND CAME OUT AS FAST AS WE COULD GET DRESSED UP TO COME OUT.>>Reporter: EVEN WITH THE SHORT TIME THAT THEY HAVE ONSHORE, THE VISITORS TRY AND MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THEIR VISITS.>>WE SAW THE ANCIENT BOAT AND THINGS, VERY NICE. VERY NICE.>>Reporter: A QUICK TASTE OF LABRADOR, I GUESS, OF THIS TOWN IN LABRADOR.>>VERY QUICK.>>WE HAVE THIS CAKE, WITH WHAT KIND OF BERRIES?>>PARTRIDGE BERRIES.>>Reporter: HERE IN POSTVILLE, THEY ARE READY TO WELCOME…>>TODAY I HAVE HAD A DONATION FROM A LOCAL ELDER, AND SHE MADE SOME HOMEMADE REDBERRY SQUARES AND HOMEMADE RED BERRY JAM.>>Reporter: INAUTHENTIC AND HOMEGROWN EXAMPLE OF LABRADOR HOSPITALITY.>>THIS YEAR, WE HAVE A NEW BOAT , AND WE ARE STILL EXPECTING TOURISTS AND STUFF LIKE THAT, IT WOULD BE NICE TO JUST HAVE SOMETHING FOR THEM HERE. THE DONATIONS WAS JUST PEOPLE AROUND TOWN WHO WANTED TO HELP.>>Reporter: AND FOR ONE RESIDENT HERE, THE NEW VESSEL IS A BIG CHANGE. THIS 88-YEAR-OLD CAME DOWN TO SEE EVERY LANDING OF THE NORTHERN RANGER. HE VOWS TO DO THE SAME WITH THIS SHIP.>>Reporter: WHAT DO YOU THINK NOW THERE IS A NEW BOAT?>>VERY GOOD. VERY GOOD. I AM NOT USED TO IT.>>Reporter: YEAH. ARE YOU GOING TO COME AND SEE THIS BOAT WHEN IT COMES IN?>>YEAH.>>Reporter: EVERY TIME?>>EVERY TIME.>>Reporter: BACK ON BOARD, THE CREWS FEELING THE WEIGHT OF THE PAST FEW DAYS.>>I THINK WE ARE ALL TIRED. THAT IS PART OF THE GAME, BUT WE DIDN’T — WE KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO BE A CHALLENGING WEEK GETTING EVERYTHING ON BOARD. THERE ARE SONY LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTS BEHIND THE SCENES THAT NOBODY SEES.>>Reporter: IN THE KITCHEN, THREE MEALS A DAY HAVE TO BE SERVED. HAVING THE PASSENGERS TO DEAL WITH IS A NEW CHALLENGE FOR THOSE WHO WORKED ABOARD THE OLD CARGO VESSEL THAT SERVICE THE COAST.>>THERE’S A LOT MORE PEOPLE NOW , A LOT BUSIER OF A SHIP.>>Reporter: NEEDING — FEEDING A GALLEY FULL OF HUNGRY PEOPLE IS ONE THING.>>WHENEVER YOU GET A CHANCE YOU HAVE TO DO PREP BECAUSE IT WAS ALWAYS BUSY.>>Reporter: BUT THERE WAS NO PURSER ON THIS FIRST VOYAGE. WOODWARD SAYS IT IS NOW HIRING ONE, BUT FOR THIS TRIP, EVERYONE HAD TO PITCH IN EVERYWHERE TO MAKE THINGS WORK.>>WE ARE A SHIP RIGHT FROM THE CAPTAIN RIGHT DOWN TO THE DECK CREW. OUR PURPOSE IS WHAT WE SET OUT TO DO WHEN WE UNTIED THIS BOAT AND THAT IS TO TRANSPORT PASSENGERS AND CARGO TO THE PORTS UP ALONG THE LABRADOR COAST SAFELY AND EFFICIENTLY AS POSSIBLE, AND IF THAT MEANS ONE OF US DO SOMETHING OUTSIDE OF OUR NORMAL WORKDAY, THEN THAT IS WHAT WE HAVE TO DO.>>Reporter: THE CONTRACT IS WORTH OVER 40 BRING $5 MILLION EVERY YEAR FOR THE NEXT 12 YEARS TO THE WOODWARD GROUP. IT, ALONG WITH THE GOVERNMENT, HAS BEEN TAKING IN THIS TRIP AND THE FIRST WEEKS OF THE NEW SERVICE, READY TO MAKE CHANGES, READY TO DEAL WITH THE KINKS THAT NEED TO BE WORKED OUT, THEY SAY.>>WE HAVE A LOT OF THINGS TO WORK ON, BUT WE ARE JUST GOING TO MONITOR AND NOT JUMP THE GUN. THINGS THAT MIGHT SEEM AS A HICCUP THIS TRIP MIGHT JUST BE A ONE-TIME THING, SO WE SHOULDN’T JUMP THE GUN.>>Reporter: THIS TRIP MEANS A LOT TO THE CAPTAIN WHO HAS BEEN WORKING TO GET THE SHIP TO THIS POINT, THE FIRST VOYAGE.>>YOU WANT TO FULFIL YOUR JOB AND KEEP THE PLACE STOCKED WITH PROVISIONS, AND DO IT THE BEST YOU CAN. [♪♪♪]>>Reporter: A TRADITIONAL GREETING AS THE SHIP PULLS INTO NAIN.>>I WAS VERY NERVOUS WHEN IT WAS COMING IN, EVEN LAST NIGHT WHEN I WENT TO BED. I COULDN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT AND COULDN’T WAIT TO SLEEP.>>Reporter: IT IS THE FINAL STOP. HOW DOES IT FEEL?>>GOOD. A LOT OF PRESSURE IS OFF NOW. NOW WE JUST NEED TO MAKE IT BACK OUT.>>WE HAVE A LOT OF KINKS WORKED OUT ON OUR WAY UP THE COAST, SO HOPEFULLY ON THE WAY BACK DOWN THE COAST A FEW MORE KINKS WILL GET WORKED OUT AND WE GET STREAMLINED. THE GOAL RIGHT NOW IS TO GET BACK ON SCHEDULE AND DO WHAT WE NEED TO DO FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.>>SHE IS HERE, SHE IS BRAND-NEW AND WE ARE GOING TO — FOR HER FIRST TRIP WE HAD A SUCCESSFUL FIRST TRIP. WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS DOWN THE ROAD, HOW THINGS GO.>>Reporter: AS FAST AS THE SHIP CAME IN, AND HEADS BACK OUT. THE SHIP, A NEW BOAT, A NEW SERVICE, AND A NEW LIFELINE FOR LABRADOR’S NORTH COAST. [♪♪♪] [♪♪♪]>>Carolyn: WELCOME BACK TO “HERE AND NOW.” 6 MILLION CANADIANS HAVE HAD THEIR PERSONAL INFORMATION COMPROMISED IN A MASSIVE COMPUTER HACK AT CAPITAL ONE. THE FINANCIAL SERVICES COMPANY SAYS ABOUT 1 MILLION OF THEM HAVE THEIR SOCIAL INSURANCE NUMBERS COMPROMISED. PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY SAY HAVE BEEN AFFECTED SHOULD VISIT A FINANCE CANADA OFFICE. THE FINANCE MINISTER WAS ASKED TODAY ABOUT THE HACK.>>THIS BREACH IS OBVIOUSLY HAVE CONSIDERABLE CONCERN FOR US AND FOR CANADIANS. I HAVE ALREADY SPOKEN WITH THE HEAD OF THE OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT FOR FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS. I HAVE ASKED THEM TO START INVESTIGATIONS INTO THIS ISSUE.>>Reporter: A FORMER SYSTEMS ENGINEER IN SEATTLE IS FACING A SINGLE CHARGE FOR ONE OF THE BIGGEST SECURITY BREACHES OF A MAJOR AMERICAN FINANCE — FINANCIAL INSTITUTION. U.S. FEDERAL AGENTS BEGAN TRACKING THE SUSPECT EARLIER THIS MONTH AFTER BEING NOTIFIED BY CAPITAL ONE OF A POSSIBLE BREACH. THE U.S. FINANCIAL GIANT SAYS ABOUT 106 MILLION PEOPLE IN CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES ARE AFFECTED. CUSTOMERS AND THOSE WHO APPLIED FOR CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARD PRODUCTS. THE COMPANY BELIEVES IT IS UNLIKELY THAT THE INFORMATION WAS USED FOR FRAUD.>>>DESPITE A HANDFUL OF CONFIRMED SIGHTINGS ACROSS THE FOUR WESTERN PROVINCES, THE EXACT WHEREABOUTS OF A PAIR OF B.C. TEENAGERS ON THE RUN FROM POLICE REMAINS A MYSTERY. THEY ARE SUSPECTS IN THE MURDERS OF THREE PEOPLE IN NORTHERN B.C. HE WAITED FOR THE MAN.>>I SAID WE HAVE TO GO, COME QUICKLY DOWN THIS WAY, IT WAS OUR ONLY WAY OUT.>>Reporter: IN SECONDS, FIRED BLOCK THE WAY — BLOCKED THE WAY HE HAD COME OUT.>>WHEN I FIRST LOOKED AT THE STAIRS, I THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET THROUGH WITHOUT GETTING BURNED AND IT WAS JUST THE TIMING OF IT. ONCE WE WERE DOWN TWO OR THREE STEPS, IT WAS ALMOST LIKE A TORNADO COMING UP THROUGH THE STAIRS. IT GOT A LOT WORSE REALLY QUICKLY AND WE WERE ALREADY STARTED, SO I JUST SAID, GO GO GO, AND WE MADE IT DOWN.>>Reporter: JUST AS FLAMES CONSUMED THE ENTIRE BUILDING. IT ALL HAPPENED WITHIN MINUTES. HIS WIFE AND KIDS WERE WATCHING FROM THE CAR.>>IT WAS DEFINITELY A SHOCK. THEY WERE QUITE UPSET AT THE TIME AND IT WAS VERY SHOCKING FOR THEM TO SEE AND GO THROUGH. AS WE HAD THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW, IT WILL CLICK ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY. WE WILL TAKE A LOOK QUICKLY AT WHAT THE FUTURE TRACKER IS SHOWING. THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAS MOVED THROUGH NOW AND AS WE HAD THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW, A BEST CHANCE OF SEEING THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE UP THROUGH THE NORTHERN PENINSULA AND LABRADOR. OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, THIS HOT AND HUMID WEATHER WILL STICK AROUND IN A COUPLE OF FRIENDS WILL MOVE THROUGH. THAT COULD SPARK SOME THUNDERSTORMS. AT THE RISK — WE WILL HAVE THE RISK OF THAT THROUGH THE FUTURE TRACKER SHOWING SOME OF THAT RAIN MOVING THROUGH CENTRAL INTO THURSDAY EVENING AND STAYING UNSETTLED UP THROUGH LABRADOR AS WELL. HERE IS A LOOK AT YOUR FORECAST FOR TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES DIPPING A LITTLE BIT FOR ST. JOHN’S. A HIGH NEAR 22 DEGREES. OTHERWISE WE WILL STAY WITH THAT HOT, STICKY, HUMID WEATHER FOR MOST OF CENTRAL. CORNER BROOK WILL BE 31 DEGREES TOMORROW WITH A RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS THAT WILL POP UP IN NATURE. NOT LIKE THE LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS WE SAW TODAY. 22 DEGREES OF THEIR LAB SAFETY AND HANGING ONTO SINGLE-DIGIT TEMPERATURES FOR NORTON LABRADOR — NORTHERN LABRADOR. LOOKING AHEAD TO THURSDAY, SAME THING. THE TEMPERATURE IS NOT MOVING MUCH. IT WILL STAY IN THE TEENS FOR MOST OF LABRADOR AND UNSETTLED WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS, THEN AGAIN I HAVE A RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS. I KNOW IT IS A LITTLE BIT EARLY, WE ARE STILL TWO DAYS AWAY, WITH IS A GOOD CHANCE WE WILL SEE SOME THUNDERSTORMS ROLL THROUGH ON THURSDAY, AS WELL, OTHERWISE WE’RE LOOKING AT A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUD FOR THE METRO AREA. 27 DEGREES AND SUNSHINE, STICKING WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL WEATHER. TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE TEMPERATURES AS WE HEAD INTO THE NEXT FIVE DAYS. 20 DEGREES WILL BE STICKING AROUND RIGHT INTO FRIDAY. TWENTY-ONE AND THEN THE BEST CHANCE OF SHOWERS. THE WEEKEND AS WE SPEAK LOOKS GORGEOUS. TWENTY-THREE AND 25 DEGREES WITH PLENTY OF SUNSHINE. FOR CENTRAL NEWFOUNDLAND, THE BEST CHANCE OF SEEING RAIN, AGAIN, THOSE THUNDERSTORMS, I HAVE 31, 28 AND MADE 26 START OFF THE WEEKEND. IT LOOKS LIKE FRIDAY NIGHT WE WILL SEE SOME SHOWERS INTO THE FIRST HALF OF SATURDAY MORNING, AND THEN THAT SUNSHINE WILL PEAK OUT AGAIN. SUNDAY LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND 25 DEGREES. AND THEN FOR WESTERN NEWFOUNDLAND, THAT HEAT CONTINUES TOMORROW. DIPPING A LITTLE BIT AS WE HEAD TOWARDS BEGINNING OF THE WEEKEND AND THAT POTENTIAL FOR IT SHOWERS SATURDAY. UP THROUGH LABRADOR, THERE ARE COOL TEMPERATURES. IN THE TEENS, UNSETTLED, ESSENTIALLY GREY SKIES RIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY. WE MIGHT SEE THE SUN PEEK OUT AT THIS POINT. IT LOOKS LIKE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WILL BE 16 DEGREES. WESTERN LABRADOR, 22 DEGREES, AND TO THOSE TEENS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEKEND, IT LOOKS LIKE. [♪♪♪]>>Ashley: I WANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE TOO.
